Arlie Petters

Arlie Oswald Petters, MBE, is a Belizean-American mathematical physicist who holds the position of Benjamin Powell Professor in mathematics and is a professor in both physics and economics at Duke University. Petters is a pioneer in mathematical astronomy, addressing issues related to the interplay of gravity and light using various fields, including astrophysics, cosmology, general relativity, high-energy physics, differential geometry, singularities, and probability theory. His notable work includes the development of a mathematical theory of gravitational lensing, as detailed in his monograph "Singularity Theory and Gravitational Lensing."
